I wasn't indicating my opinion that you are not a real IT person btw dont take that wrongly. Oh and the fact it is open source makes it all the more prone to being hackable because the source code is all over the internet. It almost never happens because real IT people use real IT equipment, not PC's with Asus motherboards and a bunch of NICs running some open source firewall. So your CEO sends in a request for federal grant for a project and they go down the list and find out you are running PfSense they are going to deny you the grant because you do not meet the criteria. Your business may never get an Audit but if it does, and most do in order to meet certain federal programs for assistance, tax breaks, financial support, etc. And depending on the business is depending on the type of Audit you may or may not be required to do by state and federal law. Yes it is very true, they are required at some point to conduct audits based on Security, admin, safety (osha), etc.
